Google vs Facebook – the new cold war

February 10, 2012 - 3 minutes read

Quotable quote:

“The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination.”¬†Albert Einstein

As a result of the recent IPO, Facebook now has a market capitalisation in excess of US$100 billion, Google by comparison has a market capitalisation around US$188 billion.

Some interesting points:

  • Facebook has around 3000 staff. Google has 25 000. So the company value by staff member is vastly different
  • Google is much more diversified than Facebook – in fact the sheer variety and scope of products from Google is amazing and worth taking a look at.
  • The majority of revenue to Google is from advertising – and click here for an infographic on which Google Adwords cost the most
  • This is where Facebook is attacking Google – and the key reason that underpins the valuation

So, if you are a consumer brand, then Facebook advertising makes lots of sense. B2B customers should be leveraging LinkedIn and Google for the time being. If you are not sure how to get the best out of LinkedIn, please come along to our seminar on 29 Feb.

Tech innovation alive and well in WA…

If this is an area of interest to you, you may be interested to know that In the latter part of 2011, there were several events brought together to seed and grow innovation, and recognise and reward tech innovators in WA. A substantial innovation culture exists here in Western Australia – and beyond just the resources sector.

Curtin Growth Ignition Program is based upon a program developed by Cambridge University and designed to help with real world advice from people that have the runs on the board in getting innovation up. Click here for my presentation on Mastering the Pitch.

Univation is also a calendar highlight, showcasing the best of innovation from our universities with the intent of bringing together the resources necessary to commercialise. A significant contingent of Silicon Valley VC’s attended, and saw some terrific pitches in the WApp Awards – including one of the best pitches I’ve ever seen with Big Help Mob who won the award.

Innovator of the Year recognises on some of the terrific innovation that is getting traction and further along the path of commercialisation. In addition, there is egroup, the Licencing Executives Society, the Innovation Centre and more.
